Busy Lizzies (Impatiens)

Busy Lizzie
Busy Lizzies (Impatiens) are remarkable plants for any garden. Unlike some bedding plants, they will tolerate shade and moderate drought without any ill-effects, making them a must for the low-maintenance gardener.

They have come a long way from the simple single flower in shades of pink or red. Now they come as singles or doubles in a huge range of colours and they will flower throughout the summer, giving a spectacular display.

There are seed raised types for planting out in borders, many of which are also suitable for baskets and containers although they do not trail. These are generally the cheaper option if you wants lots of plants and there is plenty of choice from stunning mixes to single colours for a more themed effect. Recent introductions include:

Busy Lizzie Metallica Mix
A metallic sheen to the petals gives this selection a really eye-catching appeal. Look closely and you'll appreciate the delicate detail in the flowers.

Busy Lizzie Xtreme Utopia Mix
For a truly relaxing effect in the garden, choose paler, more restful colours like the harmonising shades of purple, lilac and white in this blend.

If you want trailing plants or double flowers then you should choose cutting raised types. Although more expensive you usually need less of them so they still represent great value for money. Of particular note are

Busy Lizzie Fiesta Sparkler Collection
These magnificent long-lasting, double-flowered plants come in shades of cherry, salmon and hot pink. They are perfect for use in containers where you want to make a bold impact.

Busy Lizzie Spellbound Collection
This delightful plant is the first trailing Impatiens and is raised from cuttings, rather than seed. Each produces masses of flowers throughout the summer and up until the first frosts. You can grow it on its own or team it with other basket plants. It comes in a range of stunning colours.
